Losses: vs. LSU(24-28), at Northwestern(14-20), vs. Ohio State(0-59)
Record vs. Bowl Teams: 7-2
Common Opponents:
LSU: Auburn blasted the Tigers by 34 points in Auburn. Wisconsin lost by four in the opener at Jerry World. Advantage: AUBURN
Prediction:
Auburn had the season’s out of conference statement win in Manhattan. They turned some heads by throttling LSU and beating Ole Miss. Then their defensive woes caught up with them. They allowed 262 points in conference play, highlighted by Bama torching them for 55 in the Iron Bowl.
Wisconsin lost to Northwestern, to the fifth place team in the SEC West (LSU, whom Auburn smoked), yet were somehow ranked high enough to vault Ohio State into the playoffs when the Buckeyes dominated them in the Big Ten(14) Championship. Wisconsin uses two quarterbacks regularly, which means they really have none. That became very apparent when they fell behind early to Ohio State.
For all the trouble they have in the passing game though, they still have one of the premier backs in the country in Melvin Gordon. Go back and look what Georgia’s runninng backs did to that Auburn defense. That is why Wisconsin has a real chance in this game. That said, I just can’t wrap my head around how poorly Wisconsin has looked at times this year. I can’t possibly take them in this game.
Pick: Auburn
