Prediction:
Michigan State’s defense has some issues this year. It is not the strength of the team like it was last year. They held decent leads against both Oregon and Ohio State before losing control in both games. It had everything to do with the defense, or lack thereof. They are a physical unit, but they had serious trouble with the the speed of Oregon and Ohio State. Not to mention giving up 31 points to Purdue and nearly blowing it against Nebraska. There are a few more holes in the Spartans’ armor this year.
Baylor once again put on a track meet on turf this year. What I wouldn’t give to see them play Oregon! Alas, there was no way Baylor was jumping to three or Oregon to number one. Baylor’s defense was pretty good at times this year. They shut down an average Texas team, and dominated Oklahoma for two and a half quarters after falling behind 14-0. Then there were games like Texas Tech and TCU where they got gouged. They did in their loss to West Virginia as well.
Baylor has a better offense. Michigan State sometimes has a better defense. Baylor has the speed at the skill positions on offense to really give Michigan State problems. The Spartans need to control the clock, but that was not one of their strong points this year. This has the potential to be a shootout. If it is, Baylor has a huge advantage.
Pick: Baylor
