Prediction:
Missouri’s defense was a strong unit again this year, though they did struggle against Georgia and Alabama. Their troubles on offense led to putting their defense in precarious situations. QB Maty Mauk looked like he regressed this year wtih the loss of Dorial Green-Beckham. That said, Bud Sasser emerged as a deep threat, and really made his QB look good a few times. Missouri has a strong running back in Russell Hansbrough as well. He is no Henry Josey, but he can still move the chains.
Minnesota has issues trying to throw the ball beyond ten yards. They have no deep threat on the outside, and QB Mitch Leidner might not be able to get the ball to him even if they did. The offense relies on pounding you into submission with David Cobb and Leidner running at you from all angles and formations. Just so you don’t fall asleep, they have an oustanding TE in Maxx Williams wo can get outside if needed. the Gopher defense has let the team down at times this year, but they held their own against Ohio State and Wisconsin.
Minnesota has a real chance to win if they don’t turn the ball over. That has been a real problem at times this year. Missouri has the defense to force them into bad positions. I think this is going to be a battle of attrition. This will likely be a low scoring game, wich both teams excel in. Missouri has the more proven track record, but I don’t think Minnesota is just going to roll over. They are a big and physical team, just like Missouri. I think this stays within a field goal.
Pick: Minnesota
