Kirk Cousins' Record Against Winning Teams With Vikings Is Worse Than You Thought

The Minnesota Vikings brought Kirk Cousins in, and gave him two hefty contracts as well, in hopes he would push them over the edge in the NFC. They were, after all, in the NFC Championship game the year before he arrived with a roster seemingly built to win immediately.

Boy did that backfire.

Since joining the Vikings in 2018, Cousins has compiled a dreadful 7-26 record against teams with a winning record. This year he's 3-5 against teams that currently have winning records (which is much better than he has been!), but the Vikings will miss the playoffs for the third season in his four years since joining the team.

This stat comes to the forefront as Vikings fans/brass try to understand who the bigger culprit for their regression is, head coach Mike Zimmer or their QB. The stat above suggests it's Cousins and it's hard to disagree.

The Vikings were in the NFC Champions in 2017, had made the playoffs in two of Zimmer's first four seasons there and had gone 39-25 in those four years. Since Cousins arrived, they've made the playoffs once in four years and gone 32-31-1. In his career, Cousins is 58-59-2 as a starter.

Not defending Zimmer. Just saying those are the facts.

Each side deserves blame. But the man the Vikings brought in to push them over the top has done the exact opposite. Cousins has struggled against good teams, losing nearly 80% of his games against them, and brought the whole Vikings franchise down with him.

The Vikings are three-point favorites at WynnBET in Week 18 against the Chicago Bears. Since Chicago is under .500, Cousins won't have a chance to improve on his horrible mark in the 2021 season.
