Insight On Jerheme Urban From Raising Zona!

Evening, Addicts!
I hope you are enjoying the new site and that you are all finding your way around OK. I know changes can sometimes be awkward, especially when it comes on one of you usual web sites but I really do believe this redesign not only gives us a more professional look but it also feels ore user friendly. Thanks so much for baring with us as we work out the bugs.
Now, back to business. Scott Allen (good, strong last name) from Fansided’s Arizona Cardinals blog Raising Zona, was kind enough to give us the lowdown on the Chiefs newest wider receiver Jerheme Urban.
Check out what Scott had to say about Urban after the jump.
Jerheme Urban has all the potential in the world of being a dependable, serviceable wide receiver in the NFL. His problem is inconsistency. It comes as no surprise to me that he latched on with Kansas City, going back to work for former Cardinals Offensive Coordinator and current Chiefs head coach. Hopefully Urban can get his career back on track. He was the number four guy and number three at times due to injury here in Arizona. Coach Ken Whisenhunt gave him every chance to succeed. In 2008 and in 2009 he had flashes of brilliance. Unfortunately, they were just that, flashes. He seemed to cough the ball up when it mattered most. He had a huge turnover in the divisional playoff game against the Saints back in January. That drop spelled the end of his Cardinals career. He was caught up not only in his inconsistency but also a numbers game. Yes, Anquan Boldin left, but now that leaves the door open for a couple of other guys on the cusp of making the team the past couple of years ready to fight for the number four spot here. Urban does bring big game experience to KC and honestly for all his downfalls in Arizona, I see more upside for him being in KC. This might be the move that gets his career really started.
Hmm. Inconsistency with a lot of potential? Sounds a little bit like one Bowe, Dwayne to me. Then again, what is inconsistent for a Cardinals WR could Pro Bowl caliber play compared to the likes of the befuddled Bobby Wade. What do you think, Addicts? Did the Chiefs bring in another unreliable receiver?
And a special thanks to Scott for taking the time to chat with us.
LT Signs With Jets, Nose Tackle Becomes Bigger Need
Phin Phanatic (Dolphins) Posted on 14 March 2010 by AJ Minichino | Comments Off |
With LaDaninian Tomlinson signing with the Jets for two years it looks like nose tackle is becoming a huge need now. Also with Jason Ferguson being suspended for the first 8 games of the 2010 season for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances the Dolphins will now have to look for a big Nose tackle. I know LT hasn’t been the same player he used to be but the Jets have one of the best offensive lines and last year they lead the league in rushing yards. Randy Starks and Paul Soliai performed above expectations last season but they aren’t the dominating, run stuffing force that the Dolphins need in the middle.
There aren’t any starting nose tackles in free agency since they were all resigned by their teams and Jamal Williams was signed by the Broncos so it looks like the only way to acquire a nose tackle is by trade or the draft. There aren’t a lot of nose tackles on the trading block so it looks like we will make our selection through the draft.
Dan Williams (Tennessee) is a first round prospect and many people believe that he will be the selection at #12 to Miami. If the Dolphins choose to skip on Williams then some other options are Terrence Cody (Alabama) projected 1st – 2nd round, and Cam Thomas (North Carolina) projected 2nd- 3rd round. Some late round prospects are Linval Joseph (East Carolina), and Torrell Troup (Central Florida) both are projected to be drafted around the 3rd or 4th round, or Jay Ross (East Carolina) who is projected to be drafted in the 5th or 6th round.
Whoever Parcells brings in we know that he believes he can start and be a force for Miami on the defensive line.

Browns Trade Quinn To Broncos
Arrowhead Addict (Chiefs) Posted on 14 March 2010 by Patrick Allen | Comments Off |
I have to say, Addicts, I don’t get it. The Browns signed Jake Delhomme who has done nothing but suck since the 2008 playoffs. The Broncos trade the Browns for Quinn, who has done nothing but suck since he came into the league. The Broncos, in turn, gave Peyton Hillis to the Browns. Hillis looked like a budding star in 2008 under Mike Shannahan but Josh McDaniels hardly ever gave him the ball to in 2009. The Donkeys also gave up a 2011 sixth-round draft pick and a conditional 2012 draft pick to Cleveland.
As far as I am concerned, Cleveland came out ahead here. In my opinion Hillis is a more valuable player than Quinn. Quinn has potential but I have actually seen Hillis succeed in the NFL. I am not sure I have ever seen Quinn throw a pass longer than 10 yards.
My question is what does this all mean? Are the Donkey’s going to go with Orton or Quinn as their starter? Orton played pretty well for them last year but are the Broncos giving up 2 picks (albeit late ones) and a player for a backup QB? Is Cleveland rolling with Jake Delhomme next year? What will Kyle Orton’s neck beard think about all this?
What do you think, Addicts? Will Quinn be the starter next year in Denver? Can he flourish under McDaniels? Will Charlie Weis be able to tell Romeo Crennel how to rattle Quinn? So many changes! You have to love the NFL offseason.
Blockbuster Trade Alert: Brady Quinn Traded for Peyton…

Hillis, that is. Maybe it’s not such a blockbuster trade (Quinn to Denver), but it certainly is a bullet dodged by the Dallas Cowboys.
The year was 2007, the Cowboys were coming off of a disheartening loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the wild-card round of the playoffs. Questions were swirling around undrafted free agent quarterback Tony Romo. The Cowboys team was mediocre towards the end of the 2006 season losing three of four games (Saints, Eagles, and Lions), and Romo bobbled a go ahead field goal. Will he recover from the stigma of the bobble, did NFL defensive coordinators figure him out, or was he a flash in the pan like Scott Mitchell?
The Cowboys moved past the Drew Bledsoe era, but how confident were they in Romo? Certainly the two best quarterbacks in the 2007 draft wouldn’t slip all the way to #22. Would the Cowboys be willing to trade up to secure their long term future at the game’s most important position.
Come draft day, Jamarcus Russell is taken 1st overall by the Oakland Raiders. Cleveland expressed interest in Quinn; would he go at #3? Nope. It was later reported that the Cleveland management told Quinn they were going with tackle, Joe Thomas. Quinn was crestfallen as he wished to play for the team he rooted for, but it wasn’t meant to be.
There were many teams who had yet to find their franchise QB though they had invested high picks already at the QB position. Arizona had taken Matt Leinart the previous year, the Redskins were still developing Jason Campbell, and the Vikings were developing Tarvaris Jackson, a second round pick from the previous year. There was absolutely no way the Miami Dolphins would pass up a franchise quarterback. They had a new offensive minded head coach, Cam Cameron, and it was simply a match made in heaven. With the 9th pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select Tedd Ginn, Jr. What? Who’s going to throw to Ginn? Later that weekend, Coach Cameron said that the fans would be excited to see Ginn on special teams as a returner. Apparently he didn’t get the memo that special teams players aren’t drafted in the first round, unless you are Oakland.
Then came the painful 2 and 1/2 hour tumble to #22. You may ask what I was doing after Reggie Nelson was taken at #21 by the Jaguars (though you also may question, “Why do I care?”). I’ll answer the latter first, you don’t (feel free to skip ahead). As for the former, I was bouncing off the walls, jumping up and down, and yelling at the top of my lungs. Why? Not because I wanted Quinn to be drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, but rather I KNEW this was the spot where a team would trade up to get Quinn. I knew Jerry Jones would hold this bait out and reel in a big fish.
Enter the Browns. They initially offered their 2008 first round draft pick and their 2007 3rd round pick. Jerry wouldn’t pull the trigger as he knew the Cowboys needed a replacement for aging veteran Greg Ellis. Jerry stood firm and Cleveland blinked first. We received the 2008 first round draft pick and the 2007 2nd round pick. Long story short, we traded the 2nd round pick, 3rd, and a 5th to Eagles to draft Anthony Spencer. The 2008 pick became Felix Jones. By virtue of trading down four spots, we picked up two cornerstones to the Dallas Cowboys.
This is all ancient history, so why bring it up? While the Cowboys were on the clock making the above arrangements, Mel Kiper, “draft expert”, vociferously stated that we should absolutely draft Quinn to groom him to be the Cowboys QB of the future. He opined that Quinn was absolutely a better QB than Romo. It was at that point that I realized there wasn’t an Easter Bunny, Santa, or a Draft Expert. From then on, I only considered Kiper to be an encyclopedia. Tons of useful information about Borneo and plate tectonics, but if you are looking for life lessons to shape your future, he’s not the resource you want.
And so only 3 years later, Quinn is traded for a fullback (originally drafted in the seventh round), a 6th round pick in 2011, a conditional pick in 2012, and a Costco sized bag of Doritos. So as we sit down to 23 hours of draft infotainment in one month, please take the analysis of the experts with a grain of salt… unless your drinking margaritas, then feel free to salt up the rim of your glass.
LaDainian Tomlinson Headed To New York Jets
NFL News and Rumors Posted on 14 March 2010 by Andy Auger | Comments Off |
Earlier this afternoon, we posted that sources close to former Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson were saying he would playing in New York next fall. That speculation has officially become a reality this evening, after ESPN reported that Tomlinson and the New York Jets have agreed on a two year contract.
Tomlinson had previously visited the Minnesota Vikings last Thursday, spent friday in New York, and flew home to San Diego on Saturday.
The Jets released pro bowl running back Thomas Jones earlier this off season, despite his excellent 2009 campaign.Tomlinson will now join the Jets as the third piece in New York’s rushing attack, along with Shonn Greene, and Leon Washington.
